For years, a black & white photograph hung on our living room wall. It’s my daughter Jessye – then about six-years-old – floating in a Cape Cod pond. Her eyes are closed. Completely at rest, she is both of this world and somehow not.
This summer I circled back, and asked neighbors, friends, and a few strangers to let me photograph them floating. This time, I photographed in color.
“Give yourself to gravity,” my yoga teacher and friend Claire occasionally exhorts us. In the warm and silky waters of Long Pond, that seems effortless.
