In Santa Fe, I love the adobe walls, not just for their curves and grace, but as shadow catchers. Without anything more, they are enough.
Abiquiu and Ghost Ranch are Georgia O’Keeffe’s land. Photographing in her shadow, I wanted to eliminate detail, or hold just a little. I’d like to photograph again under moonlight, with long exposures, so the color mutes and shadows move.
Tucked behind a guardrail high above the Rio Chama, I stumbled across a memorial to “painter extraordinaire” Louisa McElwain (1953 – 2013). If you shoot from a very low angle, her paint brush touches the sky.
